Well! At the outset it must be clear that research is scientific things which is based on valid scientific backgrounds. Research is done in the science  i mean its scientist who does this.Is it? well it seems so.Really ? Well let this be unveil in the course of time ,and move on.

I am interested in research so what i must know.Lets start with meaning of research  ,so question is what  is research? to what the research is called? For the purpose  of this i will have to take help some people who have done research and/or who are known  and expert in research methodology. 

In simplest terms, research is searching for and gathering information, usually to answer a particular question or problem.

 So one simple explanation says its  searching  gathering of  information .Now why this ? it is for answer particular question or problem.This mean that i must have a specific question or problem so i can research.Yes  i now understood why it is mostly job of scientist.these people have so many questions and problems .but this doesntmean i dont have any questions or problems in my life , i do have! may not be that much complex ,difficult but i do have.
  
OK! lets move on there are still more uncountable definitions  of research so lets see some of them.

Research comprises "creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge, including knowledge of humans, culture and society, and the use of this stock of knowledge to devise new applications."

Now see  stress :

creative work: work i know ,see creative 

• Creativity, phenomenon whereby something new and valuable is created.

so i need to create something new and that too valuable.

on a systematic basis :  so have to see what is systemic

Second meaning is more consistent,yeah  it mean i have to do that work step by step ,OK!

And this is done for increase the knowledge of various aspects of life with the purpose of its applications.  This definitions are somewhat theoretical. now see :definition of scientific research is performing a methodical study in order to prove a hypothesis or answer a specific question. Finding a definitive answer is the central goal of any experimental process.
yes here i am doing my research for proving hypothesis or answering specific question.I know question lets see what is hypothesis 
A hypothesis (plural hypotheses) is a proposed explanation for a phenomenon,but what is phenomenon? It is  is any observable occurrence. yeah i got it now.
